"Volunteers as first responders in times of crisis" is the theme for International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2017. In times of crisis and emergencies, volunteers are very often the first to respond and offer support, addressing current and pressing issues affecting people everywhere, from migration or humanitarian crisis to natural disasters.
Instability is becoming more frequent and intense around the world, both in developing and industrialized countries. Recent migratory movements, political and armed conflicts, poverty, hunger, natural disasters and health crisis have all contributed to an increasing number of people living in unstable environments and at risk of social exclusion. Collective action is needed not only to save lives, but also to enable people to live their lives with dignity.
